Dominque Burgess is an education entrepreneur, school design strategist, policy advocate, national speaker, and consultant with more than 18 years of experience in education.
She began her career as an educator and has served as a teacher, instructional leader, coach, principal, school founder, organizational leader, and national education advocate. Her work centers on helping leaders create learning environments where students, educators, families, and communities can thrive.
Dominque is the founder of Burbrella Learning Academy, an innovative microschool organization established in 2020. Through Burbrella, she helped develop personalized, affirming, and flexible learning experiences that reached more than 500 families across over 20 states.
Her work has been featured by Forbes, and she has presented at SXSW EDU, the Cato Institute, VelaCon, the National Alliance of Black School Educators, and other national education events.
Dominque was recognized as a Yass Prize Semifinalist and School Choice All-Star. She has also contributed to education policy conversations involving microschools, school choice, public education innovation, zoning, facilities, and access to alternative learning models.
Her work is informed not only by research and strategy, but by the real experience of building schools, leading teams, supporting families, navigating regulatory challenges, developing new programs, and transforming setbacks into new pathways for impact.
